Once upon a time, I was able to edit videos. I’m not a good photographer, and don’t make any claims on that front, but I do like to edit things. This video is a student assignment for a Nicolas Jaar song. My indignant brother asks what is wrong with me at the beginning? This is a response to my excitement at showing him the four corners edition of Dracula I’d been reading.
At any rate, Van Helsings parts in the book are set in Akzidenz Grotesk. This is the antecedent to the famous typeface Helvetica. Personally, I think it is a nice design consideration given that Akzidenz Grotesk was released the year before Dracula was published.
Evidently, my brother he wasn’t impressed and asked me “What is wrong with you, it’s just text?” This made me laugh, so I kept it in the edit.
Nicolas Jaar Journeys video
Putting it together
I filmed this with an ipod touch while commuting to work Graphic Mint. The video contains movement but little else. The edit is the only thing to hold interest other than the Jaar song of course. Black and white works as a stylistic thing and to hide the crappy resolution of the source footage.
Professional procrastinator
I cobbled this video together in a day before it was due like any good student. It is overlong, and you can see where I run out of both ideas and footage halfway through. It exists with flaws. Like everything. Do enjoy it with all the warts and defects. The Nicolas Jaar song holds up too!
